Birds of my yard this week!

It has been an eventful week here in my bird world.  The Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Yellow Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Baltimore Orioles, Brown Thrasher, Carolina Wren, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds as well as Pine Warbler and Dickcissel have all made their presence known. I will share more photos later. I forgot to mention the Cooper's Hawk and the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher as well as the Black and White Warbler, Hooded Warbler and Blue Grosbeak. This bird activity keeps this Birder smiling!!! Blessings!

Hummingbirds and Oranges!

We have been away from home for a couple of days.  Our first thoughts upon returning were to get our personal belongings unloaded and the "cold items" refrigerated again.  Next up was certainly checking food and water for our birds in the yard.  The oranges had been ravished by the Baltimore Orioles while we were gone. My husband replenished those while I checked the water in the bird baths and filled Hummingbird feeders.  Our "Hummers" have emptied our feeders at least once and sometimes twice in recent days. The fall migration south seems to bring amazing amounts of these beautiful tiny birds to visit. We finished our chores and sat down to rest on the porch as we often do.  I believe we both saw the Hummingbird drinking from the orange about the same time.  We looked at each other and laughed.as we continued to watch and witness this event.  It was certainly new for us and I enjoyed taking a few photos as he would drink and then sit a few minutes and then return to the orange for more. Cute! Hope you enjoy my photos and be sure to put out a few oranges, you never know which little bird will enjoy them! Blessings!

Welcome to The Canada Warbler

This perky warbler visited for a couple of days.  I was very happy to see him and photograph his visit to our yard. The Canada Warbler's beak is dark gray and wide at the base. This Warbler always has a necklace. The necklace is variable in the extent and darkness of it. The fall birds are often bright in color. He has pink legs and a long tail. This bird often cocks tail and droops wings. This was a first visit to our yard. I first saw him after lunch one day and then back briefly the next day. He did not stay long. His visits to the water were brief. The Baltimore Orioles were visiting that same day. The Orioles stayed for a week or more. They love the oranges and the Hummingbird nectar. Blessings!
