Lake Lure, North Carolina

A beautiful day on Lake Lure in North Carolina. Jim and I enjoyed a delicious lunch outdoors. The Mallard decided to swim by as we were enjoying the wonderful breeze and commenting on the beauty surrounding us. On days like this we are continually amazed that no matter where we are, nature's wonders awaken our senses allowing us to appreciate this life we have been given. I sincerely hope everyone had such a blessed day!

Caddo Lake State Park

A wonderful Tuesday in Caddo Lake State Park. After lunch I headed out to check out any birds moving around the campground. Jim was resting after a strenuous day repairing the ailing motor home. That is another story. I am on birds! I witnessed a Pileated Woodpecker as I moved down the road away from the campground. He was loud and very busy on a huge pine. A few campsites later I saw the Downy Woodpecker, also very busy. In the course of my walk I saw the Hooded Warbler, BlueJay, Carolina Chickadee and Tufted Titmouse. Before I forget, this morning was the very best birding. Jim and I drove around the area. We happened upon a Wood Duck family cruising the lake. We were so excited to see them. Beautiful, amazing birds!

The Blue-gray Gnatcatcher reminded me he was still frequenting my yard. He is so active, moving constantly through the trees eating bugs. I was happy to see him once more. He will move further south soon. The female Baltimore Oriole was gleaning bugs from the Bois D'Arc or Osage Orange tree. She also seemed to enjoy being in the American beauty berry bushes. The male was not to be seen while I was outside. The Carolina Chickadees flitted to the feeders taking one seed at a time. Chickadees then fly to a tree branch and crack the seed, then begin the process again. The water drips are such a draw for all the birds. I am totally entertained when a feathered friend is seen splashing and enjoying the bath.

Fall is moving birds

An exciting evening to say the least. My husband and I were sitting on the back porch. The orange/black bird caught his eye. Wow. A flock of Baltimore orioles visited our Pine trees in the back yard. We witnessed two come to the water bath. My husband was practically jumping out of his chair. He is a new birder and loves the thrill of sighting and watching these beauties. I find great joy in sharing this hobby with him.

Moving Northeast

I will be posting new sightings and bird fun in the next few weeks. I will be enjoying the East coast and other northeast areas. Cape May,New Jersey is on my list for birding. Summer is winding down and I am so ready for fall. I look forward to viewing more feathered friends. I enjoy many Northern Cardinals, Eastern Bluebirds, Blue Jays, Carolina Chickadees, 4 Dove species, Eastern Kingbird, Tufted Titmouse, Northern Mockingbirds, Carolina Wrens, and House finches in my yard all summer.
