Spring Birds

Spring Migration was truly a delight for Jim and I. We enjoyed Quintana at Freeport, Rockport, Goose Island , and Aransas National Wildlife Preserve. Brazos Bend brought us the enjoyment of the American Bittern. We decided that we would travel to new migratory spots next year. I have to admit my photographs give witness to beautiful birds at home and away!

Carolina Wren Nest

The Carolina Wren has blessed us by setting up housekeeping on our back porch. She was heard singing beautifully a couple of mornings before the nest sight was chosen. The back entrance is a busy place to decide to make your nest for any bird. We use this door almost exclusively. We watched as she began bringing nesting material, soon she had a helper and the both of them worked together. I decided to help her out by moving some gardening tools out of the way. I opened the box with a small plant shovel and she took to that immediately. She flew inside looking all around to check out the box and the entrance in and out. I loved watching her. My heart smiled as I felt I could almost read what she was thinking. We are hoping she will lay her eggs, raise her brood and they are fledged safely. What a Birders joy!

White-eyed Vireo

Goose Island State Park is a favorite birding spot for Jim and I. We set up our drip and feeders early on our first day. We were rewarded with the White-eyed Vireo coming to our water and enjoying a ten minute or so bath. How precious to watch as he flitted in and out of the water. In for a moment and out shaking off for a moment, this continued as we watched his every move. We look forward to our next visitor.

New Year's Day 2011

We spent another great weekend in the woods of East Texas. Weather was much too warm the first day. Friday brought cooler dry air to the area. Our birds of the weekend were Brown Creeper,Golden-crowned Kinglet.Ruby-crowned Kinglet,Eastern Phoebe,Eastern Bluebird,Blue Jay, Hermit Thrush,Pine Warbler,Yellow-rumped Warbler,Pine Siskin, American Goldfinch,Northern Cardinal,Tufted Titmouse,Carolina Chickadee,Downy Woodpecker,Pileated Woodpecker,Great Blue Heron,Carolina Wren and American Crow. The crowning birding moment was spotting a Bald Eagle nest. Jim and I were so excited we could barely stand still to watch. The Eagles flew over our heads several times during our days here. Each time we witnessed a fly over was a true joy for both of us. Today is our last day, hopefully,we will see their great beauty again!

Lake Lure, North Carolina

A beautiful day on Lake Lure in North Carolina. Jim and I enjoyed a delicious lunch outdoors. The Mallard decided to swim by as we were enjoying the wonderful breeze and commenting on the beauty surrounding us. On days like this we are continually amazed that no matter where we are, nature's wonders awaken our senses allowing us to appreciate this life we have been given. I sincerely hope everyone had such a blessed day!
