Golden-winged and Yellow-breasted Chat

I could not be more pleased with our migratory birds in the yard.  They come flying in each day and it is just like "a box of chocolates" you just never know what you will get each day! The Golden-winged is a life bird for me so I am thrilled.  He was present for just a few seconds as our resident Northern Cardinals scared him.  I had never realized what bullies the cardinals were, I know now. The beautiful gold wings and head contrast beautifully with the black and gray! Awesome Bird!  Blessings

Blue-winged Warbler

This brilliant Warbler was our surprise yesterday.  I first got a glimpse of him early in the morning.  Later, mid day, his golden self with the beautiful blue wing spent a couple of minutes at the water.  We did not see him today. We were gone for awhile so could have missed a visit. We have enjoyed seeing wonderful birds this week in our yard. Each day has brought new migrants as well as the Rose-breasted Grosbeak for the entire week. I think they really are enjoying the seed and water. I will be curious as to how long they stay with us. Blessings!

Visit to Tejano Wetlands and Quintana

We were blessed to visit the Blessing,Texas area. We enjoyed time with friends as well as visiting some great birding sites.  Tejano Wetlands was a new one for us. We saw the Common Goldeneye at the wetlands. This was a new bird for me.  My pictures were good for identification, not close enough for detail. I will be posting several series of photos from this trip. I will identify the birds for anyone new to birding. The Ruddy Turnstone was also a new bird for me. He was very interesting looking. The Upland Sandpiper and American pipit were abundant on our trip,as well as the Savannah Sparrow. The Black and White warbler, Northern Parula, American Redstart (immature), Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Baltimore and Orchard Orioles,Summer Tanager,Eastern Kingbird,Rose-breasted Grosbeak and Hooded Warbler entertained us as well.   A Common Yellowthroat gave us a quick look at the Wetlands.   While we were at Quintana a beautiful Great Crested Flycatcher sat in a nearby bush .  Lucky Me!!  Blessings!
